Is the Central Bank Gift Card a credit card? [back to top]

No. The Central Bank Gift Card is a prepaid Visa card that carries a fixed cash amount determined by the giver at the time of purchase. Each time the card is used, the purchase amount is deducted from the available balance.

When using the Central Bank Gift Card at a Merchant Point of Sale Terminal, do I choose to process the transaction as a Debit or Credit. [back to top]

You would choose the Credit Option when using the card at a Merchant Point of Sale Terminal. You will not be required to enter a four digit pin number. However, you will be required to sign for the transaction.

Where can the Central Bank Gift Card be used? [back to top]

The Central Bank Gift Card can be used to make purchases at more than 22 million Visa Debit merchant locations.

Who might like a Central Bank Gift Card? [back to top]

Anyone. Friends, relatives, business associates. It's a gift that can be used everywhere Visa Debit is accepted.

Is there a limit as to how much value the Central Bank Gift Card can have? [back to top]

Yes. The minimum value for the Central Bank Gift Card can have is $20.00 and the maximum value is $250.00. They can be sold in $5.00 increments between $20.00 and $250.00.

Who can purchase the card? [back to top]

Anyone can purchase the card by coming to one of our 19 Banking Centers or affiliates. These can be purchased with cash, Central Bank check or credit card.

What are the fees to buy the Central Bank Gift Card? [back to top]

$5.00 per card.

Does the gift recipient need to sign an agreement? [back to top]

Each card is distributed with Terms and Conditions. These Terms and Conditions fully explain the rules regarding the use of the card. The Terms and Conditions can also be viewed online. (click here) The gift recipient accepts the Terms and Conditions by either signing the back of the card, using the card.

Will the gift recipient receive a statement? [back to top]

No. Gift recipients can review their current balance online free of charge through this Web site. In addition, the gift recipient can call the toll-free Central Bank Cardholder Services number 1-866-276-5115 to receive balance and transaction information.

What happens if I need to return an item purchased with my gift card? [back to top]

Each merchant location has its own return policies and will handle the returns in the same manner as any other Visa transaction. They may credit your Central Bank Gift Card, provide a cash refund, or issue a store credit.

What if the purchase is denied? [back to top]

The card's available balance is probably less than the purchase amount. You may inform the merchant of the remaining balance on the card and use another form of payment to pay the difference, subject to the policy of the merchant. Also, please be aware that use of the Central Bank Gift Card at some merchants — for example, restaurants, mail-order companies, and cruise lines — requires the card have an available balance greater than the purchase amount to ensure sufficient funds for tips or incidental expenses. This card cannot be used for pay at the pump transactions.

Does the Central Bank Gift Card have an expiration date? [back to top]

Yes. The expiration date is indicated on the front of the card. The card will be valid for a minimum of six months from the purchase date.

Can I reload my Central Bank Gift Card? [back to top]

No, the card cannot be reloaded.

What happens if there are still funds available when my Central Bank Gift Card expires? [back to top]

We encourage you to use the entire gift amount before the card expires. There's a $15 processing fee to close out the account (or the remaining balance if it's less than $15).

What happens if my Central Bank Gift Card is lost or stolen? [back to top]

Central Bank provides 24-hour toll-free support. Immediately report any problems or a lost or stolen card by calling 1-866-276-5115. A replacement card will be issued and any available balance (less the replacement card fee of $5.00) will be transferred to the new card. As long as the lost or stolen card is reported immediately, you will not be responsible for any unauthorized merchant charges.

Can the card ever have a negative balance? [back to top]

Any authorization request that is greater than the card's available balance will be declined. However, there can be times when a Visa merchant puts an item through without prior authorization. If an overdraft occurs, the card recipient will be required to make a payment to Central Bank Card Services to cover the negative amount.

Why are my purchases online (or by telephone) denied when I know the balance is sufficient for my purchase? [back to top]

It is possible that an address verification is not possible with a gift card. Online and telephone purchases may require that the "billing address" for your purchase match the address on file for your Central Bank Gift Card.
